PRESS RELEASE: Rep. Kevin Rader Racks Up Endorsements for State Senate - Dist. 27

Congressman Wexler, Sen. Deutch, Reps. Pafford and Skidmore All Announce Early Support

[West Palm Beach - FL] State Representative Kevin Rader has unified the support of the major Palm Beach County elected officials in his bid for Florida Senate in District 27 (Senator Dave Aronberg is vacating the seat to seek the Democratic nomination for Florida's Attorney General).

Congressman Robert Wexler, State Senator Ted Deutch, County Commissioners Burt Aaronson and Shelley Vana, State Reps. Mark Pafford and Kelly Skidmore and Tax Collector Anne Gannon have all announced their early and strong support for Rader's candidacy.

"Florida is facing tough times and many severe economic issues, and I feel I can make an even bigger difference in the state senate," said Rader.  "I am grateful to have the support of so many of my colleagues in this race."

Rader enters the race as the clear front-runner for both the Democratic primary and the general election. Seventy-two percent of the Democratic primary comes from Rader's home county of Palm Beach.   The 27th Senate District is a solid Democratic seat that provided an eighteen point victory for Senator Dave Aronberg last year, an eight point victory for President Barack Obama last year, a ten point victory for CFO Alex Sink in 2006 and a nine point victory for Skip Cambell for State Attorney General in 2006 (even as he went on to lose the state-wide vote).   In addition, the Republicans have been drawn into a viscious and expensive primary between Liz Benequisto and Sharon Merchant.

In his first year as a state representative, Representative Rader made his mark in Tallahassee as an advocate for small business and as a passionate debater.

Rep. Rader understands and appreciates what it take to represent a geographically large and diverse district as his current district spans four counties.  Senate District 27 consists of portions of Palm Beach, Glades, Charlotte and Lee counties.  "I am going to work very hard to campaign in all the counties in this district.  Lee County in particular shares many of the same economic challenges we are experiencing I am excited by the opportunity to represent those communities in Tallahassee."

Rader will continue to emphasize senior issues and improving Florida's schools in the Florida Senate. He wants to focus on stabilizing Florida's economy; work with our cities and counties to jump start economic development efforts and create more jobs; and ensure that our public safety officers have the resources they need to keep us safe.

Representative Rader currently represents the 78th District in the Florida House of Representatives, which includes parts of the west Boynton Beach and Lake Worth portions of State Senate District 27.  He resides in Palm Beach County with his wife Rabbi Amy Rader and their 4 children.

The AFL-CIO has endorsed my campaign!

Friends,   I’m proud to let you know that this Sunday, I received the endorsement of the Florida AFL-CIO. Since I was elected to the Florida House of Representatives, I’ve made getting our economy back on track my top priority.  It hasn’t been easy, but I’ve continued to fight for the issues that make a difference for workers in Florida, and I believe that the endorsement reflects that work. I’ve worked with the AFL-CIO on some of their most...

A Statement on Anti-Choice Legislation

In the Politics Column of yesterday's Palm Beach Post, my Republican opponents for Senate District 27 were asked about their position on the anti-choice legislation HB 1143 which passed the House and currently sits on Governor Crist's desk.   http://www.palmbeachpost.com/news/abortion-bill-divides-gops-benacquisto-merchant-691842.html.   Lizbeth Benacquisto's comments about her support of House Bill 1143 show her total contempt for the rights of women...

House Passes Anti-Corruption Bill

Yesterday, the House approved, with a vote of 111-1, my measure that strengthens the penalties for local officials who violate ethics laws.  Counties can now double the maximum fine, and the jail term has been raised from 60 days to a full year. Many thanks to my partner on this issue, Senator Dave Aronberg.  This problem has festered in our communities for decades, and Palm Beach’s reputation as ‘Corruption County’ has hurt our businesses and our local government...

Governor Crist's Veto of SB6

Parents, Teachers, and Students Made Their Voices Heard

Today, the Governor listened to the tens of thousands of concerned parents and teachers that contacted him these past weeks.  With one voice, the people of Florida have said that this is the wrong approach.  You don’t improve education by attacking teachers.  You don’t support students by treating them like faceless, interchangeable objects.  You don’t empower communities by robbing school boards of their decision-making ability.   I oppose...

Why I support the Consumer Choice Bill

Property insurance is a crisis that needs to be addressed immediately

Today I joined my Democratic colleagues on the General Government Policy Council; Representatives Debbie Boyd, Dwayne Taylor and Alan Williams, to send HB 447 (the Consumer Choice Bill) to the House floor. I believe this bill is absolutely necessary to strengthen the economy and state of insurance in Florida, which is on the verge of collapse.   Last session, nearly 80% of elected Democrats felt the same way, including Senator Dave Aronberg and...

Kevin Rader Calls on Republican House Members to Oppose Anti-Teacher Bill

Today, Kevin Rader called on Republicans in the Florida House of Representatives to reject the education bill proposed by John Thrasher, R-Jacksonville. “This bill shackles our teachers with further high-stakes testing.  It removes incentives for teachers to get advanced degrees and certifications. This bill links our teachers’ pay to criteria that haven’t even been developed yet,” Rader said in a statement to supporters. “In these past weeks, we...

Kevin Rader Blasts AG McCollum's Threat to Block Heath Care Bill

With the news that Attorney General McCollum is threatening to file a suit against the federal government in order to block portions of the health care reform bill passed on Sunday, State Representative Kevin Rader (D-Boca Raton) issued the following statement: “Right now in Florida, there are 3.7 million people that do not have health insurance.  These people can’t afford to be stuck in a broken system.  They can’t afford to be left behind as the rest of the...
